TELL US ABOUT YOU

TBW:    Do you write reviews for the books you read?

KAL:    Some of them! I don’t review everything I read, but if a book really strikes me I like to put in the added effort. I think now

that I’ve published a book, I’ll be more likely to review every book I read. I just feel like authors live and breathe good

reviews, and if I love the book I’m sure they’d like to know about it. I know I do!

TWB:    Do you read what you write? (genre)

KAL:    I actually don’t really read romance or contemporary romance. I used to read a lot of YA stuff when I was in high school, but

have cut back since then. I read whatever is good really, I don’t have a preference. I like fantasy, some romance, philosophy,

            action, drama, historical fiction…

TWB:    What are some of your habits when reading or writing?

KAL:    I think my only habit while reading is to ignore the rest of the universe. I can literally be in a room of busy people with

someone talking to me and the music turned all the way up and not hear any of it. But while writing, I don’t know if

I have an exact habit. I know that I like to sit on the couch with my puppy asleep next to me between 12:00-2:00 am.

That’s the absolute best time for me to write. Recently taking a short walk helps me think more about what I want to

write before staring at the screen for too long without doing anything.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CRAFT/BOOK

TWB:    What inspired you to start writing?
KAL:
I’ve actually always written in my spare time. I wrote two YA types books   while I was in high school. It was

just something I did leisurely when I had   an idea in my head. I always found it really therapeutic. I think for

Avoiding Commitment in particular, I just had the idea pop into my head about meeting your ex's girlfriend, and then

it kind of spiraled out from there

TWB:    Why did you choose this genre?

KAL:    I’m not certain I would say I chose the genre as much as the genre chose me. I don’t read much romance or contemporary

romance novels, but the story just came to me. Once I had the idea in my head, it ate away at me every second I

wasn’t writing it. All I wanted to do when I wasn’t writing   Jack & Lexi’s story was write their story. So I feel like for

me the characters story just fit the genre.

TWB:    What steps did you take to publish your book?

KAL:    Well initially I never intended to publish AC. It was just something I had written for fun, and I already had “out there”

on fictionpress. I’d thought about publishing it last January and took some steps with editing it. I hadn’t really made

any decisions though and was in the middle of my  Masters program so I pushed it aside. But Colleen Hoover emailed me

and told me that I needed to publish, and how can anyone deny Colleen Hoover anything?  I kicked it into high gear,

edited it, found Sarah Hansen to design the cover and S.C. Stephens was there with advice and moral   support.

TWB:    Avoiding Commitment obvious involved a lot of cheating and lies. What’s your stance on cheating? And what was the moral of this story?

KAL:    I feel like it’s probably the same as most people’s: cheating isn’t a good thing for you or your relationship. My stance

is that shit happens and it happens a lot…a lot more frequently than people probably want to admit. I have people tell

me all the time that this book felt like it was written about their life and that it helped them realize what happened in

their own life. But I don’t think cheating is the POINT of the story…I think it’s that you can come out of it and get

            through it…eventually.

TWB:     How would you have reacted to Jack’s initial request to visit and convince Bekah that he’s ready for a long-term committed relationship?

KAL:     I know some people think they would never in a million years go to meet the girlfriend, but I think I would have.

I wouldn’t have wanted to and I wouldn’t have been happy about it, but I think in the end I would have done it. Who can

             resist Jack?

TWB:     If offered a movie deal would you accept? If so, who would play the main characters? (Lexi, Jack, Chyna, Ramsey and Bekah)

KAL:     To see my book up on the big screen would be a dream come true. I love movies! I used to go to the theaters every

weekend! ... I’d probably accept if it all looked good!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEXT STEPS

TWB:    What can your readers expect from Avoiding Responsibility?

KAL:    Readers can expect a whole new world of angst and heartache from the next book. It focuses on the year after AC

ends and everything that is in store for Lexi in that time period. Here is a brief synopsis:

Lexi has finally given up her once destructive relationship and moved onto   bigger and better things, namely Ramsey

Bridges. But things are amiss with her new beau and she discovers things about him and his past that would make any girl

turn the other way. And she's not sure his past can coincide with hers. A year after his entrance into her life, he's trying

to make amends and does the one thing she never expects: invites her to a  wedding...Jack's wedding. Find out what

happens to Lexi as she deals   with all the twists and turns that proceed from that question, throw in a few   new players to
shake up the mix, and don't forget all her old partners in   crime.

TWB:    Are you working on a new series? If so, can you share what it will be about and when can we expect it?

KAL:    I am currently working on several projects. The Affiliate is a fantasy romance novel that I started working on this

summer. Here is a description of that:

On the day of Cyrene's 17th birthday, she is Presented to the court of Byern for Selection into the Class System of their

society. Coming from a high First Class family, she desperately hopes to be placed into the highly educated world she grew

up in. Her sister and brother both already serve their kingdom as established ambassadors of the royal court in one

of the highest positions. She hopes to obtain a similar stature next to her sister as a Queen's Affiliate. What she finds

when she ultimately enters this world is something she never dreamed of, full of a series of unanswered questions and

riddles, scandal, and intrigue...I am so working on the 3rd book in the Avoiding series! I haven’t released any information

yet about it, but I’m hoping to get it out next year!  So look for that in the future…
